The two writing systems of the Japanese language are the kana and the kanji.
The kanji are ideograms : each drawing represents an idea, a word. They are from China.
The kana are phonetic syllables broken down into two identical alphabets with different letters : the hiragana and the katakana.
The rōmaji is the Japanese name given to the Latin alphabet, the one we use to write English.
The Japanese language also uses the arabiasūji which is the Japanese name given to Arabic numerals, which we use daily in French.
Be sure to learn these six terms and their definitions, they are very important and will be used extensively in future courses !
